Not all demonstration suggestions will be suitable or appropriate for
inclusion in the CREED Project. Each suggestion will need to satisfy
suitability or eligibility criteria as determined by the CREED Selection
Board. A preliminary list of these criteria is given below:
1. CONSISTENT WITH PARK OR CHOSEN SITE LONG RANGE PLANS.
Each demonstration will need to fit into the long
range plans of the Suburban Hennepin Regional Park District and Anoka
County's Department of Parks and Recreation, for the development of the
Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park as a whole, or into the plans of the site
administration in question if some other site is chosen.
2. ENERGY RELATED.
Each demonstration must be directly related to one
of the following technologies:
i. Renewable energy development and/or conversion.
ii. Energy conservation.
iii. Energy efficiency improvement.
3. ENVIRONMENTALLY BENIGN.
Each demonstration must potentially be no worse
than a maintenance of the status quo in terms of pollution and
environmental degradation. Will the demonstrated system, device or
materials contribute to a reduction or mitigation in one or more of the
following? Acid rain, global warming (the greenhouse effect), ozone layer
depletion and pollution - water and/or soil and their effects on human
health. Preference will be given to those demonstrations which will have
the greatest potential of improving the environment.
4. REPAIRABLE, REUSABLE OR RECYCLABLE.
Demonstrated devices and materials must be shown to
be repairable, reusable or recyclable at the end of their useful lives.
Lengthening lifetimes and reusability should be major goals towards a
reduction of the energy used in the manufacturing sector.
5. STATE-OF-THE-ART TECHNOLOGY.
Demonstrations and their technologies must be at
the cutting edge of their fields. The CREED Project will not be interested
in any old "mousetrap" even though it may be environmentally benign.
6. SPONSOR SUPPORTED.
The major portion of the cost of each demonstration
must be borne by the sponsor. Against this cost however must be factored
in the advantages of free space, high public visibility, and socially/
environmentally responsible public relations.
7. ONGOING SPONSOR COMMITMENT.
Sponsors must be responsible for the ongoing
operation, maintenance and updating of their demonstrations. Additions or
modifications to reflect new advances in their fields will be viewed very
favorably.
8. ECONOMIC IMPACT.
Demonstrations should either address or be
cognizant of Minnesota's energy/environmental future in terms of job
creation, dispersion of wealth, and dollars in and out of the state. These
are all very positively affected by the dispersed nature of renewable
energy technologies and environmental initiatives. Preference will be
given to Minnesota based companies and businesses, since they have the most
at stake in improving the local economic environment.
9. AMENABLE TO THE EDUCATIONAL PROCESS.
All demonstrations should have as their primary
goal an educational objective, i.e. to motivate the general public to
socially responsible action with respect to the way in which they use
energy and care for the environment. In addition the close correlations
which exist between energy use, the physical environment and the economic
health of the region should be stressed where appropriate.
