We have chosen "THE STREAM" as our newsletter title. Apart from the acronym whose main use is as a memory jogger, the title, like our other acronym "CREED" has a pertinent message in itself. "THE STREAM" conveys a sense of ongoing dynamic flow. Energy flows to us as a stream of photons from the sun. These are absorbed by the earth and its atmosphere as heat, which drives the streams of air, and water, which make up our climatic and hydrological systems. Solar energy also drives the photosynthetic process exemplified by streams of sap, which course up through the capillaries in the stems of plants. The earth's resources flow to us in streams both natural and manufactured to supply our needs, and these are balanced by streams of economic activity. Now we are endeavoring to make "THE STREAM" a stream of information flowing out to the people of our State about these issues. That is our mandate!

From the end of 1999 to the beginning of 2006, "THE STREAM" was published jointly by CREED and the Minnesota Renewable Energy Society (MRES). MRES is the Minnesota chapter of the American Solar Energy Society (ASES), which in turn is the American branch of the International Solar Energy Society ISES). In 2006 the Board and Directors of MRES opted to start publishing their own individualized newsletter. "THE STREAM" which is now solely a publication of CREED is published bimonthly and has an annual subscription rate of $15.00 ($10 for students) for hard copy, which is used to defray the costs of preparation, printing, copying and postage. Single issues are available for $3.00. The online version through this website is free. Each issue addresses a different theme. So far, our issues have had the following themes:

In future issues we will continue to look at themes associated with the growth of the EERE Industry in Minnesota.  We will also look at ways in which homeowners can save energy and in so doing be good to the environment and of course we will keep track of the Global Warming and Oil Supply/Cost Issues.  Your suggestions for future issue topics are welcome.

"THE STREAM " has become a forum for the discussion of 3E educational issues and we welcome letters to the editors.  It is of great concern to us that energy educational programs that have been started in Minnesota in the past have either closed down or been suspended.  If we are to help people in our State understand that there is a direct link between our use of energy and wider lifestyle changing issues such as pollution, global warming, transportation mobility and economic prosperity, then we must begin to make information pertinent to these issues widely available to everybody.
